THANK YOU TO OUR HIGHWAY CLEAN-UP HEROES!!
Robenette Rosenberger lead another successful Highway Clean-Up at Silver Creek High School on Saturday, November 8th. Roben says: "Thanks to all who came out yesterday to make the Adopt-A-Highway clean up once again a HUGE success! We had awesome weather and had a crew of 19 people which included one new member, Kate Rieger and one previous-member, Julie Wilson. With the lessor turn-out of volunteers, we resorted to skipping two sections of the highway and we still collected 27 bags of trash and 2 separate piles of large debris. The highway looks amazing. So, give yourselves a BIG pat on the back because you are all true trashers!! "Thanks (to) Dennis Campbell and his homemade muffins we had an awesome breakfast. As usual we had some fun/crazy finds on the highway that we all chuckled about. Then Joe Gutmann challenged each crew to a most collected fireball liquor bottles. My crew won by one bottle. Lean Ann Poindexter and I found some coins and donated to my donation cancer piggy coin jar. Good Times!! "I want to tell you, I know I've said this before, but I just have to say it again, it is so nice to see the club come together and give back to the community as we did yesterday. It was truly a rewarding and a fun day hanging out together! "Trashers: Susie Peters, Peggy Bannon, Micheal Poindexter, Micheal Truitt, Maggie Ridge, Leah Ann Poindexter, Kate Rieger, Julie Wilson, John Hamilton, John Neichter, Joe Gutmann, Jeanne Garrison-Young, Jan Campbell, Dennis Campbell, David Richard, Clare Burkhart, Nancy Lovett, Barbara Thorn, Carole Sutton "Thanks again for all who turned out to make yesterday a huge success and I hope to see you all in the spring for the next Adopt-A-Highway clean-up!"
SIW DONATES TO DARE TO CARE FOOD BANK
On November 20th, SIW donated $2000 to the Dare to Care food bank at the Floyd County Library location. Due to a matching funds donation, our donation was increased to $4000. Proceeds from the annual Harvest Homecoming Bicycle Tour finance this donation. To read more about how Dare to Care helps Kentuckiana families, click here. SIW MEMBERS ATTEND OPENING FOR NEW MULTI-USE TRAIL IN BORDEN
On May 2nd, SIW members attended the grand opening ceremony for the new multi-use rail-trail held in Borden, Indiana. This portion of the trail stretches from Deam Lake to New Pekin, paralleling Indiana Route 60. The trail surface is fine crushed limestone outside of the towns. It is fairly smooth but there are some washed-out sections between Borden and New Pekin. There is a bridge out in Borden, but it is easily bypassed on Main Street. The trail is blocked at a bridge just after the 'Welcome to New Pekin' sign.
